For Makaya’s album I created 3 zoopraxiscopes music videos, out of wood, slate, and acrylic. Each zoopraxiscope contained a mixture of hand drawn, rotoscoped, and generated animation loops. I used a mixtured of laser etching and engraving, as well as image transfer techniques to fill the spinning discs with their animated elements.
After fabrication I spun the discs digitally, and then explored the different regions, which held different animating moments throughout. The contents of the discs where inspired by the sounds and themes of the songs from discussion with Makaya.
